![]() Modifications are usually documented through IEP Goals. Modifications change the level of learning, or what your child is expected to master. What your child is expected to learn does NOT change. Accommodations change how content is accessed or tested. This is a feat for them, just like learning the quadratic formula is for others. Accommodations for students with disabilities are very different from curriculum modifications. And this may seem insignificant to some, but some of these students were not even talking when they entered the classroom. ![]() I have heard stories of students learning the alphabet and number and colors. I try to keep up with their progress throughout their career with her. My mother teaches in a multiple handicapped classroom. ![]() If you are in the special needs classroom, find a way to break down the material for your students. Encourage them when you pass them in the hallway. They allow students with disabilities to pursue a regular course of study. Be prepared to encounter these students, though. 05/24/22 The term 'accommodation' may be used to describe an alteration of environment, curriculum format, or equipment that allows an individual with a disability to gain access to content and/or complete assigned tasks. These students may not be able to reach the same educational assessments as other students, but they still need something that can help them expand their knowledge. ![]() The students need a teacher is prepared to meet them where they are. There are teachers who thrive in classrooms that are focused on these students. Not every teacher is prepared to handle a class with special needs children. ![]()
